Showing no sign of slowing down Jason Laidback is back on his forward-thinking imprint Nightprowl. With a steady stream of system smashing releases under its belt, the label has been making some serious waves on the underground since the beginning of the year.
The 9th release sees Jason delving into the sound of the golden era of Acid House & warehouse raves to pay homage to some of the most influential Rave tunes of the time. Namechecking never sounded so funky!
The ‘Astoria Mix’ is for the big rooms, ‘The Bagleys Mix’ has a dirty London archway vibe whilst the ‘Skin Up Mix’ is that one you bump at home to get you ready for the rave in your room with flyer covered walls… All acid and smiley faces, but with a contemporary sound, ‘Namecheck’ is a nod to the past with an eye on the future.
We asked former Skin Up about his Top 5 new acid tracks he is feeling at the moment.
1. Namecheck Ft Simm – Jason Laidback
Namechecking all my favourite acid house and rave classics over a 303 groove is something I’ve always wanted to do. The spirit of ’88 will always influence producers and resonate with dance music lovers!
2. Acid (You’re Free) – Denney
Very cool use of the 303 in a deep classy groove that’s not trying too hard. Dope!
3 Howler – Bodhi
Catchy and hypnotic acid lead line. Great feel to this one. Bouncy!
4 The Underground – DJ Pierre & My Digital Enemy
Heavy 303 action from the acid originator Pierre!
5 Go – The Chemical Brothers (Special Request Basement Remix)
Acid breaks with big bass from man of the moment Special Request. Solid 303 squelch!
Available now on Nightprowl.
